Guys Im so EXCITED! next week I go back to work on Rick and Morty, (we’ve been out of season for a while now) But this time, I will be returning as a PROP DESIGNER. for you non production people. a prop is a object that a character interacts with, like a computer, or a space shape. or a vehicle. all that stuff has to be drawn by some one.
If your still confused just look at the picture above and know that ill be waist deep in cartoon computer parts before you can say “WUBA LUBA DUB DUB”
Here is some things for episode 110, I loved working on Rick and Morty because all the designs were deceptively simple. there was always so much you could add to the props and backgrounds in terms of lighting and painterly feel. I didn’t really get the hang of it till the end when i did this paint for the Better buy. Also here are some Titanic props. which were really fun to paint as well.
Titanic backgrounds! It was so exciting to finale be able to sink my teeth into some backgrounds, these were so much fun to paint, especially since the titanic was one of my childhood obsessions. (The real ship. not the movie) I think they got changed slightly for the episode. Oh also i got to paint that big horrible sunset painting, My color Advisor Jason explained to me that it should look like a crummy mural painting that you would see at a tacky restaurant. I tried super hard to amp up the crappyness of it. Hopefully it looks gross and gaudy. I was inspired by all the student paintings at my University!
HAVE YOU SEEN the Rick and Morty Season Finale! Oh man, there were so many cool props and characters in this one! here are a few that i did the colors for! I really love Bird Person, Jason and James discussed him for a long time. I think the colors in the episode were pretty close to the models i did! which was nice to see. Things that I work on get changed slightly to better fit the lighting and mood of each scene. I love the little box gizmo. that aesthetic is really cool. and of course I had a ton of fun on that door!
I hope you watched the GI Joe Community Episode! ITs out on Hulu now I think. me and some awesome people worked tirelessly to bring you it. I was a prop designer and animator. Here you can see just a few of the tanks and veichles I designed for the episode. My favorite was the giant walking Cobra Robot. I worked under Community director Rob Schrab, who is super talented, and he worked very hard the last 2 months to make this possible. he even gave me notes on the cobra bot, his additions really made it look cool. oh and these were all colored by the lovely Andrea Gerstmann
